I wish there was a perfect hub but each has pros and cons. What’s running your smart home right now?

  2. Devyn Bellamy says:

Welcome to the dark side. I can’t wait to see the bags under your eyes a month from now when your imagination triumphs over your time management lol.

  3. Clell Britt says:

I just had this conversation with a friend. He just built a new house and runs HA, but he’s a programmer (emphasis on the PRO) and I’m a forester. Not really a skill set for HA. But given the new knowledge of ST that you presented I might take the plunge into Hubitat. Unless someone can convince me over to the dark side(HA).

  4. Cris Noel Dimpoy Centeno says:

    Hi Reed,
using a hub can free up your router’s load?
    thank you

  5. Greg Granito says:

Great review. Unexpected result. All the more validated as it was made under the inevitable Hibbert scrutiny!

  6. Siobhan Ellis says:

Good video. I found it interesting, especially the info about Home Assistant. I think your comments about HomeKit are mostly justified, but if you had used the free Eve App, it exposes more of HomeKit rule conditions than the default Home app.

  7. Antonio TwizShiz Edward says:

SmartThings is available for purchase directly from the Samsung website. They reduced sales on Amazon. So I can imagine the Prime overnight delivery is no more, but you can still get it.

  8. Mathias Kelly says:

I am just getting into the actual smart home sector. One of the hubs I have in my sites is OpenHab. No mention of this? Home Assistant is another valid option. But what about wall mounted dashboards? Or single pain of glass control panels?

  9. Ed Blazejewski says:

Hello – can you make a video coming from a person who has 100% HUE in their home, why add Home Assistant what does that give me, and does it work with Hue?

  10. Viaan Visser says:

Hi Reid. I still struggle setting up my smart life devices with Smartthings. The API is connected and authenticated, but I can still not get to a stage where I can see my devices.

  11. SIDDHANT SHAH says:

Wow! I just Started out with Home Assistant and it’s so good to see it score the Best. I would really like a full tutorial on it.

Watching yours and Dr Zzs video got me into home automation and I jumped full force into home assistant. I got a Z-wave/Zigbee dongle and now it connects to 90% of the stuff in my house. I highly suggest Dr Zzs for home assistant setup videos, anytime I have a problem with it I go right to his channel first. Then it’s back here for reviews and automation ideas.

  13. Viaan Visser says:

I also cannot seem to gain full control on any
of my Wyze products on any of the hubs yet, running Smartthings, Home assistant and Amazon, or at least not the automations I need. I am now reverting to running my Pan Cam from a Sonoff Micro so I can run an automation on a geofence for all the mobile devices in my household to be outside the geofence before switching on the Pan cam. Talking about hardware manupulation….

  14. Joshua Wilson says:

I initially stated with Hubitat, but have moved to Home Assistant. I have integrated my Hubitat into HA so I do not have to re-discover all of my current devices. I will continue to work with HA to get all of my dashboards tightened and looking good.

  15. RJT21 says:

Hubitat FTW. They just need to fix the Dashboard GUI and sort out some Z-Wave issues that seem to be plaguing the new C7 hub. That said, my C5 hubs have been rock solid and HE is all about automations and voice control so I don’t use the dashboards much at all. There’s so much community and 3rd party support it’s crazy.

  16. George K says:

Why does homeassistant get a 5 for automations while HomeKit only 2? I find scripting in HomeKit to be way more user friendly that yaml and the templating engine.

  17. Marc Hensel says:

The new Aeotec SmartThings Hub does not only look the same as the Samsung hub, it is made by the same company (SamJin), a Samsung daughter. All other known devices are produced step by step under the Aeotec brand. The new hub will also get the ability to work without internet connection with a software update later this year.
